Digital Soft Goods: Roll-Top Watertight Bag
This is a roll-top watertight bag designed by one of my students, Maddison Carew, for a class project. I used it as a good example of how to use 3DS Max to digitally simulate fabric in motion (plenty of other apps can also do this). Maddison specified a particular TPU/PU coated ripstop nylon for the bag material, so I showed how to use Substance Sampler to generate a tileable texture from a photo of some generic ripstop, but with the correct color, roughness, and specularity to simulate the TPU/PU coated material.
Here are some stills* from the animation and a screenshot of the material settings used in Sampler. *Unfortunately, NCSU WordPress does not allow videos.
